“Hey, Dad. You remember the toilet?”
- Hunter Morehead (31 Aug 2008)
Last night after church, we were visiting with our friends the Moreheads, who had been out of town for the weekend on a quick get-away to Great Wolf Lodge
in Grapevine, Texas — “a first-class, full-service family destination resort designed to capture the atmosphere and adventure of the northwoods.”
Besides actual lodging, some of the amazing features of the Lodge are:
- indoor and outdoor waterparks totaling 11 waterslides and seven pools;
- themed restaurants and snack bars;
- a gift emporium and convenience store;
- spas;
- an arcade;
- a fitness room; and
- MagiQuest, the first live action, fantasy adventure game of its kind in resort history.
One of the Waterpark rides at the Lodge is a huge, funnel-shaped water slide called the “Howlin’ Tornado”. Four people mount a large, clover-leaf-shaped rubber raft, and the raft is then released from the top of the funnel into a swift, swirling stream of water. The water takes the raft and its riders down the funnel, swirling them around and up and down the sides of the funnel toward a hole at the bottom of the funnel, where it shoots raft and riders out into a landing pool.
To Hunter, riding the Howlin’ Tornado felt kind of like being flushed down a toilet! So naturally, as they were recounting their amazing weekend experiences to us Sunday night, and Hunter thought of that particular ride, he excitedly exclaimed, right in the middle of the church auditorium, “Hey, Dad. You remember the toilet?”
Priceless.
