[PART 1 OF 12]

At some point, most of us have spoken the phrase, “A little birdie told me.”

“Hey, congratulations on the promotion at work!”
“How did you find out?”
“Oh, a little birdie told me!”

“So, is it true? Are you really pregnant?!”
“How did you know I was pregnant?”
“Oh, a little birdie told me!”

A couple of years ago, I did something that I had never done previously. I sat down and read through the entire Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes in one sitting. Actually, I read through the book three times, from two different Bible translations. It was an absolutely fascinating read.

One of the things I learned as I read Ecclesiastes, is that the phrase “a little birdie told me” actually has its origins in the inspired pages of the Bible! Look at the words of Ecclesiastes 10:20.

“Do not revile the king even in your thoughts, or curse the rich in your bedroom, because a bird of the air may carry your words, and a bird on the wing may report what you say.”

So, here is how the conversation might go, as anticipated by King Solomon, who wrote the book of Ecclesiastes.

King: “Why have you spoken evil of your king?”
Subject: “Oh, king, I have not done this wicked thing.”
King: “My information tells me otherwise.”
Subject: “Oh, great king. Who has spoken these lies?”
King: “A little birdie told me!”
